Two Minneapolis rockers said goodbye to the “Big City” and transplanted themselves to Ely, MN. Mike and Germaine Gemberling had some success in their bands. Germaine as the vocalist for an all girl punk rock band Smut (1989-1995) who signed with the Spanish Fly label on TwinTone Records and Restless Records in1993. Mike played guitar and sang for Superball 63 who signed to Big Money Inc. record label in 1992. He also played guitar and sang for The New Grassheads from 1994-1996 and released their full length on DreamHorse Records. They continue to make music in The Magpies along with friend/producer Rich Mattson who deliver an honest interpretation of Germaine’s banters with an Americana/Country flavor. Like a fine blend of whiskey, these three have aged with great ease, and promise to go down smoothly.
