Without coffee every day, my life simply wouldn’t be the same. In fact, just about every night I get ready for bed, I think about how I can’t wait to wake up and smell the aroma of fresh brewed breakfast blend. After one sip, my senses perk up and the day begins with a smile. Call it an addiction if you will, I don’t care. It’s true that I’m hooked on the zip I get from my favorite beverage. The other day I had the pleasure of tasting some delicious treats at the Taconite Brew & Bakery in Aurora, MN. Taconite Brew & Bakery opened in September of 2007, and has grown to be a popular stop for a home-style lunch or espresso and a sweet treat! Owners Bill and Cheryl Cadwell grew up in Aurora back in the 70’s and are pleased to live back in their home town.
So, what’s in the oven? Specialties include Finnish Rye bread, Sourdough bread-made from scratch-and their famous Paradise cookies-a special recipe made with craisins, raisins, and raisin bran cereal. Cheryl first tried a similar cookie at Paradise Bakery in Florida and then came up with her own version. Traditional rolls, danish cake donuts (an original recipe) and filled donuts are baked fresh daily. Every day offers a new variety of temptations. Saturdays are Pie Making days-fresh fruit pies-blueberry, apple and traditional pumpkin, pecan and lemon meringue.
