Have you ever thought about learning to curl? Here is your chance. We have three evenings of new curler clinics set up just for you.
Opening deer season (a.k.a. girls weekend)–the time of year where the men (and a few women, too) gather their guns and blaze orange attire to head into the woods. But, besides the hunt itself, there are other reasons to celebrate one of the Iron Range’s favorite time of year: Reason #1: A much needed break [...]
Halloween: the time of year where people enjoy becoming someone else. Costumes vary from pumpkins to vampires to men doing very strange things to sheep (Did you guys get that email!). Which brings me to the question: Does a person’s costume choice reflect some deep psychological issues?
Autumn represents the favorite time of year for many Rangers- football games, crisp air, beautiful colors, the first day of school (my personal favorite). There’s not a better time to drive down country roads and take in all the scenery surrounding us in Northern Minnesota than in September and October.
Everybody has his or her favorite holiday. Like many other Rangers, mine happens to be the Fourth of July. In fact, MANY non-Rangers have been inducted into Range Fourth of July celebrations; these Independence day evangalists now refuse to celebrate anywhere else. Who would?
One of my favorite summer events to hit Virginia, Minnesota, is the famous Land of the Loon Festival. Like many Rangers, I see the Land of the Loon as the official beginning of fun and celebration of summer. The festival kicks off Saturday morning with an extravagant parade that travels down 5th Avenue and Chestnut Street.
By now, you’ve been told not to watch the news or participate in the woes of the tanked economy, and rightfully so. As Americans, it’s tough to make adjustments on a tight budget and who wants to stop enjoying going out to eat? Not me and I’m sure not you either! There are plenty of deals happening to feed your whole family for less than it would take to make a meal at home.
Snowmobiling is HARD WORK! When your stomach starts a growlin’, check out these places to stop for a bite to eat along the Iron Range snowmobile trails. Know for their hospitality, Rangers serve up great grub with a free side of “Minnesota Nice”.
Ah, Valentine’s Day: The time of year where people embrace romance-wining, dining, chocolate, flowers, and diamonds. Women around the world day dream of making love to the music of Berlin-their ‘breath taken away’ by rose petals leading to the candle-lit boudoir enhanced only by chilled champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries. And then, somewhere along the way, [...]
It’s now January-with about 3+ months of winter ahead-and many Rangers are tired of shoveling and complaining about the cold. If it’s not snowing an inch per hour, it’s a bitter 40 below (without the wind chill!) We’re all lacking a healthy dose of Vitamin D and feeling a little blue. Depression has set in, and getting up in the morning to face another dreary day takes all we have to just get out of bed.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I mean, who doesn’t love the excuse to pig out on all sorts of yummy treats? I know I do! Looking around for Thanksgiving dessert inspiration, I found some mouth-watering pumpkin desserts that incorporate a wee bit of booze. I hope you enjoy this one, it looked so [...]
In honor of opening deer hunting here in Minnesota, I thought I’d put the most popular drink for the guys at the good ol’ hunting shack. I starting thinking that Ive never looked up the definition of beer and got curios. So, here it is: Beer is the world’s oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic beverage and the third [...]
